Acupuncture Bellingham and Reproductive Assisted Programs

Acupuncture Bellingham is an ancient Oriental healing tradition whose aim is to restore balance of energy (chi) in the body to advance health and remove blockages and dysfunctions.  Several thin gold or stainless steel needles are applied into 400 or more energy points called acupoints (although not all acupoints are literally treated with needles at one treatment) connecting to 14 energy pathways in the body called meridians.

Acupuncture has been widely used in Asia for over three millennia and was introduced in Europe in the 16th century.  It was only popularized in the 1970’s in the United States and it has then been steadily growing in popularity there ever since.  Being considered as a type of pseudo medicine by its critics, acupuncture’s efficacy is difficult to prove empirically because its foundation is based on an invisible energy called chi, which so far has eluded scientists.  Nevertheless, its efficacy can be evidenced in treating cases such as infertility, back pain, headaches and others.

Many cases have proven acupuncture’s benefit in increasing the rate of success of conception when it is used in conjunction with in vitro fertilization (IVF).  Under the hands of an experienced and qualified acupuncturist, there are very minimal risks and side effects with acupuncture compared to the multitude of side effects that can be gotten out of a prescription medication.

Acupuncture is used in the treatment of many kinds of addictions and for the management of stress, pain and nausea among others.  Acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone treatment for many kinds of infertility or can be used as an adjunct to other reproductive assisted programs such as IVF or donor egg transplant.

Oftentimes and also under the guidance of a trained herbologist, acupuncture is used in combination with herbal medicine to provide a more effective and potent treatment for health disorders.  Acupuncture with herbal medicine can remedy the problem of irregular menstruation, irregular hormonal function, low sperm count, polycystic ovary syndrome and other infertility problems.

Acupuncture regulates the functions of the body systems, neutralizes or mitigates the negative effects of a poor lifestyle and restores mental and emotional wellness; all required conditions to increase and promote fertility.

It is best to consult with an experienced acupuncturist who more or less specializes in infertility problems.  A typical course of treatment for infertility may take a few to several months depending on the problem.

This synthesis of Eastern and Western medicine has proven to be very beneficial in enhancing the success rate of pregnancy and in keeping down the rate of ectopic pregnancies and miscarriages.  Oftentimes, acupuncture is performed on the patient months prior to the actual reproductive assisted programs themselves to allow the body to feel relaxed and thus better prepared to undergo these relatively invasive procedures. This is true with IVF, artificial insemination and donor egg implantation.
